Jonathan Edwards says, “Everything that is lovely in God is in Christ, and everything that is or can be lovely in any man is in Him: for He is man as well as God, and He is the holiest, meekest, most humble, and every way the most excellent man that ever was.” It is this beauty in Christ that draws us to God. Christ is perfect in His compassion, which we see beautifully manifest in His earthly life and ministry. And we know that Christ continues to be fully human and fully divine in the presence of God and therefore continues in His perfect and compassionate empathy toward us.
Not only that, His perfect heart also does not allow Him to remain indifferent to sin and suffering. We see several examples of the righteous anger of the Lord Jesus in the gospels. This is not at odds with His compassion. His deep compassion by necessity means that He will also be deeply angered by sin and suffering, because it is against all that God created to be good and beautiful.
