A sermon from the Old Testament book of Haggai. The LORD God speaks to His people through Haggai the prophet. Cyrus the Great of Persia had issued a decree allowing the Jewish captives to return to their land and rebuild their cities and particularly the temple of the LORD (2 Chronicles 36:23). In Haggai’s time the people had been back 14 years and the Temple of the LORD was still in ruins. The LORD brings an indictment against the people about their neglect of the house of the LORD while their own houses were being built up. The principle applies to believers today when we fail to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, pursuing our own plans and goals for our lives. The Lord promises to bless those who seek first His will and purpose for their lives and who live for His glory.
